Descripción
Arenal Volcano is one of Costa Rica’s most famous destinations with its iconic, colossal volcano holding quite a reputation with its active history. Just outside of La Fortuna, it is the youngest of Costa Rica’s volcanoes, about 3 hours from the country’s capital, San Jose.
The Arenal Volcano is about 1,633 meters high (5,358 feet). In 1922, this volcano is given the name Volcán Arenal which means “Sand Volcano”, by means of its lava undergoing disintegration due to physical and chemical processes and resulting in lithic and crystalline sands that settle in the cone foothills, giving the volcano a sand hill appearance.
The Arenal Volcano was established as a National Park in September 30th, 1991 by Executive Decree number 20791-MIRENEM.
The Costa Rican Goverment does not own the 100% of the territory of the Arenal Volcano, an important percentage of the territory belongs to other people. We are the owners of 32 hectares which are located to the east side of the Arenal Volcano.
Right now, all the 32 hectares are covered by forest which protects underground water that supplies potable
water to more than 14,000 people in the area.
You and other people can help preseve the planet by protecting little pieces of forest, meter by meter. Saving the forest surrounding the Arenal Volcano protects the biodiversity.
